Words and books have always been a bit of an obsession with me. My husband, Tom, (with me on our 30th anniversary last October) sometimes calls it “annoying.” Ah well, we all have flaws. This week, I was thumbing through some unread books trying to decide what to put in my cue next, and I discovered a new word, meliorism. Hoda Kotb posted about my new word a couple days later. So, that had me feeling like I had entered some kind of “cool kids” club for menopausal women, ha? Nevertheless, this word and it’s meaning sums up rather neatly so many of the things I believe deeply. Meliorism is the quiet yet unwavering belief that the world, despite it’s flaws and struggles, can be made better through human effort, kindness and wisdom. It is the soft glow of hope in the darkest moments, the faith that every act of goodness ripples outward, shaping a future brighter than the past.
THAT, my friends, is everything I am working towards. It’s about being the light, being someone’s personal Jesus at every possible opportunity. I’ve learned that faith isn’t about pretending to have it all together—it’s about showing up, pressing on, trusting God, and walking the path, even when it’s messy. Every blog post, prayer request, and resource or support tool offered here is rooted in a desire to uplift others. Always Editing exists to offer genuine support, a bit of laughter, and the reminder that there’s always time to grow, heal, and do what we can for each other. +JMJ+
